Cypress Grove: An Ambitious Housing Development Looms near Westside Park

On the horizon of the Grove Park neighborhood in Atlanta is a substantial residential project known as "Cypress Grove". According to recently submitted state-level filings, this ambitious project is expected to match the size of the city's largest greenspace nearby, poised to be a significant addition to the Westside development pipeline.

The development plan, lodged by Cypress Grove Land Fund LLC, outlines an extensive neighborhood of 755 multifamily units and townhomes. The planned locations for this construction include areas around 988 Cato Street and 1005 Gun Club Road, based on the Development of Regional Impact application presented on Monday to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

The selected properties for the Cypress Grove project are situated on the western edges of Grove Park, immediately north of the Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. This location puts the development directly west of Midtown and Westside Park, the latter having debuted its first phase to wide praise in 2021.

The application further details that the construction of this expansive development will be carried out in two phases, spread across three distinct "pods". Additionally, a new public pedestrian trail is planned along the southern boundary of the project site. However, the precise details regarding the types of housing options within the community and the timeline for initiating the full-scale construction are yet to be clarified. Project leaders listed on the DRI application did not respond to emails seeking these details.

The application also states that the majority of the targeted property is currently owned by the developers, with Georgia Power owning a small fraction. The developers aim to conclude the project by 2028, as per the submitted DRI application.
